First A380 arrives safely to a rousing warm welcome on homeground
The first Airbus A380, the new flagship aircraft and pride of Malaysia Airlines, touched down at KL International Airport (KLIA) at 3:30pm today (30 May 2012).
The first of six A380 departed on its maiden journey from
yesterday and arrived safely
on schedule commanded by a team of technical crew comprising captains Norshid
Ali, Mohd Seth Mohd Ariff, Joseph Emuang Jr and Sumar Lee Hashim Lee.
Also on board, was a 40-member delegation comprising a cross functional operational team led by Group CEO, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, senior team members and several officials from Airbus.
As the aircraft doors opened out, AJ and team was greeted by a rousing warm applause from our Team on ground – among them Chairman, Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof, several senior extended leadership team members and almost 300 staff (mainly from Engineering & Maintenance) who were among the first to see the aircraft on the tarmac.
Malaysia Airlines is the eighth operator of this super-jumbo and the first in the world to receive the aircraft for training purposes from 31 May to 5 June before returning to Toulouse for final touches and its return back to KLIA end June.
The A380 aircraft has a seat configuration of 494 comprising 8 First Class and 350 Economy Class seats on the main deck and 66 Business Class and 70 Economy Class seats on the upper deck.
The thrice weekly commercial operations of the A380 on the Kuala Lumpur-London-Kuala Lumpur route will commence 1 July 2012. Daily A380 operations on this route will start from 25 August 2012 when the second aircraft joins the fleet.
Editor’s Note: More photos of the A380’s arrival at KLIA will be uploaded onto MH Pulse by mid afternoon tomorrow (31May2012) once we have resized and touched up the visuals. Do look out for them!
